IPod not in my computer?

Basically, my computer crashed recently and Im trying to retrieve my music from my iPod touch. Whilst browsing the web for a solution to this, I came accross a video on youtube telling me what to do, however one of the steps is to open my computer, and you should see your iPod in the devices section. The issue I have is that my ipod is Not in the devices section and I cant seem to find it. My ipod IS however in the scanner's and cameras section, however that only contains a couple of photos from my ipod so i doubt that that is it. Can anyone help me??? :)
